Camp!!!
In the second to last week of term 3 Marshall Laing's Senior syndicate went to Carey park camp in Henderson. We were divided into 12 different activity groups. Each group did 12 activities and we made a rotational schedule so that all 12 groups did all of the 12 different activities. We did activities such as kayaking, rock climbing, archery, air rifle, orienteering and many more. We also had different groups for our cabins which was where we slept for three nights. Boys cabins and girls cabins were separate. We had lots of fun and we challenged ourselves on certain activities. The total time we stayed there was 4 days and 3 nights. We all feel like that was the best camp ever!!!!!!

Primary colours

Miss Hubrich has been teaching us art so we can be ready for next term.
Miss Hubrich taught us the primary colours: Blue, Red and Yellow.
Then she taught us to make different shades of orange with Red and Yellow.
She also taught us the parts of the brush: Bristles, Funnel and the handle.
Then she taught us how to use the brush and to do strokes up and down.
Then we learnt the secondary colours: Purple, Orange and Green.
We have had lots of practice and it was really worth it.
Next term, we will take photos of our art and put them on our blog! Art is so much fun!
Speeches
Next term we are doing speeches. We will have a speech competition. This term we started finding information about our topic for our speech. We started off by going to the library and finding a topic that we knew about. We took our refill pads with us. We chose books that will help us with our speech.
Room 16 are looking forward to writing these and presenting these to the class.

King Midas and the Golden Touch

Our movie had great team members and it is based on a play that we found in a comet magazine in the library. Our movie is funny and inspirational. It’s a great movie to watch it took a lot of time out of our school work. It was a lot of fun working with everyone and their big ideas. I think everyone and I had a great time making it even though some people aren’t actually in the movie.

This term Marshall Laing Primary School has been making movies to fundraise for the senior camp so that that it makes it easier for the parents to pay due to the economic recession. We all have learnt heaps of new things, like how to green screen, take videos, animations and lots of other stuff. Our movie was called King Midas and the golden touch. Our movie got chosen because it was fantastic.

Our Movie was picked because we where the first team to finish which was due to our great team work. Our Movie is about a King that wished that everything he touched turned into gold.We worked really hard and it paid off at the end it was lots of fun making the Movie - we wish we could do it again.

Sun Safety

Room 16 have been researching about why and how we should keep safe in the sun.
Here are a few key messages about sun safety:
• Don’t get sunburnt.
• Sunburn in childhood can lead to melanoma later in life.
• Slip, Slop, Slap and Wrap
• All types of sunburn, whether serious or mild, can cause
permanent and irreversible skin damage.
• There is no such thing as a ‘safe’ tan – any change in the colour
of the skin is a sign that damage has taken place.
And some skin cancer facts:
• About 300 New Zealanders die from skin cancer every year.
• Of all the skin cancers, melanoma is the worst.
New Zealand gets very hot during the summer. At Marshall Laing we can keep safe by always wearing a hat outside, staying in the shade and remembering to wear sun screen.
